Messy. Tired. Imperfect.

Success is about taking action, even when it isn't pretty.

"80% of success is just showing up."

Woody Allen

Let's talk about the un-sexy side of business.

You know, those mornings when your alarm feels like your worst enemy.

[ Guilty as charged with the snooze button. ]

***

Here's what nobody tells you about building something amazing:

Most days aren't Instagram-worthy.

They're just... days.

Days when you're exhausted.
Days when you doubt every choice you’ve ever made.
Days when Netflix seems like a much better option than working.

But you show up anyway.

***

Unfortunately, society has created this myth that success looks like:

  • 10,000+ enthusiastic followers that celebrate your every move

  • Green smoothies at every meal

  • Unwavering fitness routines

  • Airbrushed makeup and perfectly-coiffed hair

But REAL success?

It’s staring at a blank screen, waiting for inspiration that is most definitely running late. (been there)

It’s smiling through a webinar where the slides won’t load and your WiFi drops out again. (yup, here too)

It’s dusting yourself off and hitting “send” on proposal #18 — because #17 wasn’t the one. (feels like my existence)

So here's your permission slip to be gloriously imperfect — but present.

Because showing up beats “perfect-but-never-finishing” every single time.

Overcoming “AP”

All my favorite board games have one, main thing in common – tension.

Tension from having more things that you want to accomplish each turn than the rules allow …

Tension from having to make tough choices …

And then there’s the tension that comes from wondering how you will be impacted down the road by the moves that you COULDN’T or DIDN’T make.

[ Sounds a lot like real life, doesn’t it? ]

Of course, in both gaming and in life, successfully working through your options and decisions requires careful thought.

But for many people, this process leads to what gamers call “AP” … Analysis Paralysis.

It’s what happens when you get so wrapped up racking your brain for the “perfect” move, that you can’t make any move at all.

Here’s the thing though:

Overanalyzing for the “perfect” solution RARELY yields either perfection, OR a solution.

But it ALWAYS grinds any progress and enjoyment to a halt.

Now, on game night, AP is nothing more than a nuisance.

But in real life, it’s much more serious.

It often leads to missed opportunities. Even worse, it can completely prevent you from taking the baby steps needed to reach your goals.

Fortunately, there’s a simple cure for AP.

Look at the options … Trust your gut … and MAKE YOUR MOVE!

Any move.

It’s the ONLY way to get one step closer to your goal. And you can always make any adjustments next time.

So whatever your goals, Make Your Move today. Like showing up, you can’t have success without it.

Make it a great week! 🙌
