More Input! šŸ¤–

Why we should start counting our "mental calories" too.

Dating myself a bit as an 80s kid, so bear with me …

If you’ve never seen Short Circuit, it’s an 80s movie about a military robot that gets struck by lightning and becomes self-aware (because… science šŸ˜).

One of my favorite scenes is when Johnny 5 speed-reads an entire set of encyclopedias screaming, ā€œMore input! More input!ā€

[ For the youngsters … Yes, we really used to keep entire volumes of ā€œreferenceā€ books on display. ]

I watched it as a kid and thought, ā€œWhoa, that’s frickin amazing!ā€

I watch it now and think, ā€œSame, buddy. Same.ā€

***

Recently I found myself listening to a podcast, while scrolling a blog post, that linked to a video, that recommended a newsletter, that referenced a book I’d already bought but hadn’t read.

It felt like research.

It was actually just manic digital consumption.

And I’ve caught myself in this spiral many times — tabs open, podcasts playing, YouTube queued, all in the name of ā€œlearning.ā€

Except I wasn’t actually learning. I was hoarding.

Then I heard Jocko Willink say something on his podcast recently that snapped me out of it:

Paraphrasing here: These days, we’re super careful about what we put into our bodies. But most people don’t think twice about what they feed their minds.

Oof. Major wake-up call. Guilty as charged.

***

We (literally) live in THE age of ā€œmore inputā€. Blogs, newsletters, reels, podcasts, courses, webinars, tweets, tutorials. [ Johnny 5 would have a field day! ]

So much knowledge. So much pressure to absorb it all.

BUT … input without action isn’t really learning.

It’s digital snacking.

And just like junk food, too much mindless content can make you sluggish, scattered, and unsatisfied.

***

In 2025, your priority shouldn’t be to consume more.

Your priority should be to choose what to consume, purposefully.

Research. Curate. Digest. Then close the laptop and take a mental health break.

Because at the end of the day, we’re not robots. [ Not yet, anyway … errr … that I know of. 🤣 ] We don’t need more input.

We need better output. šŸ¤–

Victory Points

By: Mike Shary
( my board-game-loving, copywriter extraordinaire and mentor, Dad ā¤ļø )

When your steampunk helicopter crashes in the middle of a sandstorm, there’s no time to wait for backup.

In Forbidden Desert, you and your team are stranded explorers trying to excavate parts of a buried flying machine before the relentless sun or shifting sands finish you off.

You’re low on water, high on tension, and nowhere near ā€œready.ā€

And then there’s the sand. Tons of sand.

Perfect.

This game doesn’t hand you clean plans. It buries the parts you need under piles of sand. It forces you to ration movement, balance exploration, and stay one step ahead of dehydration. And the only way out… is through.

Each player brings a unique ability to the team, but nobody can go it alone. The Climber might scale mountains of sand, but they still need the Navigator’s guidance. The Water Carrier can help everyone survive, but only if the group works smart.

The brilliance of Forbidden Desert lies in its urgency.

You’ll never feel fully prepared. And yet, the game constantly dares you to act anyway. Dig. Move. Collaborate. Adapt. Victory comes not from having everything — but from using what you have, where you are, right now.

That’s a mindset every entrepreneur needs. We wait for the perfect pitch deck, the right hire, or more time. But survival — and success — often comes from movement in the face of scarcity.

So channel your inner desert survivor. Get out your shovels.

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

And build that damn airship … fast!

Make it a great week! šŸ™Œ
