“Every system is perfectly designed to get the results it gets.”
We’re in the process of a website rebuild for one of our clients, a growing CPA firm. The current site is still live. Nothing dramatic going on. We built for them ~ 4 years ago and it’s due for an upgrade.
Except …
Last week, that old site landed the biggest deal in the firm’s 20+ year history. 😳 Starting out as a COLD contact form submission.
My contact at the firm sent me this note after getting the initial inquiry:
“OMG, you should have seen me yesterday when this one came in… I made the team follow up with them within the hour!”

That didn’t happen by accident (or auto-magically with AI, heh.)
While prepping for the rebuild, we went into the OLD website and added critical, robot-friendly infrastructure: schema markup, structured FAQs, entity signals, and the back-end scaffolding that makes a site legible to more than just humans.
Three months after adding it, that big-ticket opportunity landed in their inbox.
Looking even deeper, their contact form submission said “internet search.” It actually turned out to be even more specific than that. The prospect found them via Google and then cross-referenced that with ChatGPT and LinkedIn — before finally deciding they were actually worth contacting. And eventually hiring.
THAT process is today’s “buyer behavior 101” for service businesses. An invisible, multi-step evaluation that you either pass or fail.
For Google search and AI tools to include you, your content has to be structured for robots to read, collate, and cite with confidence.
Otherwise, you’re just … disappearing.

The good news?
If you’re sitting on an aging website, know this: scaffolding doesn’t always require a complete tear-down. If your site’s branding and positioning foundation is solid, it CAN be added to what you already have.
Schema. FAQs written to answer the questions your clients actually ask. Consistent entity signals that collate your business identity. Third-party validation and endorsements. Structured data.
A professional redesign will make you look like the experienced pro you are. No doubt, that part is massively important.
But the structural work (under the hood) determines whether the right people ever see the redesign in the first place.

Somewhere right now, a human (your ideal client) is doing exactly what that prospect did. Opening ChatGPT … asking a question … comparing the results to what they found on Google. Verifying and weeding out before they ever fill out a single contact form.
Whether your business shows up is decided entirely by structure. The ultra-nerdy, boring layer of a website that supports incredible content and design.
Fortunately, we speak fluent robot and know exactly what to look for — and how to fix it. If you want a set of trained eyes on yours …

Make it a great week! 🙌
